IBM to Introduce a Notably Improved Mainframe |
|
This looks to be IBM’s answer to virtualization, but they seem to be a little late to the game given that virtualization is already taking hold in Top500 companies. This could go one of two ways: IBM produces these new mainframes but loses the battle to virtualization – in which case the price drops and refurbished mainframes become available at deep discounts OR these mainframes become just viable as virtualization and it creates a steady supply of servers and storage at lower costs. |

What's new with World Data? |
|
Good morning, everyone. I just wanted to let you know some of the exciting new projects we have been working on over here at World Data Products.
First off, I would like to thank everyone who visits World Data Products website and watches, first hand, as we make many of our exciting new changes to our website. As you can see, we have changed the look and feel of our website. This project has been months in the works as I have had to pretty much learn everything as I go. I'm very excited to unveil the new look of World Data, and I hope it is more visual pleasing than the old design. The navigation is also heavily improved.
I know many of you were upset that we took down our product spec tables. Let me assure you that we will be putting those back up in the near future.
We have also been working long and hard in our creation of a new vision statement. This has taken hours upon hours to create. However, with the dedicated work of many of our employees and the guided direction of management, we have created a vision that we feel very strongly about and have already taken multiple actions as we strive to meet our new vision. Here is our vision : |

Virtualization: Friend or Foe of the Refurbished Market? |
|

Refurbished Hardware to the Rescue! |
|
A recent article states that many organizations won't be seeing a very big increase in their IT budgets. A few even state that their IT budgets will probably be cut this year.
One of the obstacles facing the decrease in IT budgets is the current slump in the economy. According to the article, there has been a "definite pull back in new server purchases." So where do all of these companies get their servers if they aren't buying them new?
If you are running into the same situation as a lot of these companies are reporting, refurbished hardware may be your solution. It's a great way to make sure you are getting the most for your money. |

More Opportunity for the Refubished Market? |
A recent NY Times article discussed how HP is staying strong in a softening technology market by having a strong global presence.
While the article notes that Cisco, IBM & Network Appliances have reported American corporations “tightening their purse strings when it comes to technology spending” it fails to note that these tightened budgets represent an opportunity for the refurbished market. Refurbished equipment provides a way to extend a tight budget – giving those decreased dollars more purchasing power. In the Times defense, this isn’t the point of the article – but I’d like to see a follow up business piece investigating this shift: are corporations really buying less or are they buying the same but spending less doing it? |
